Recap: Sultana Sultans vs. Hesperia Scorpions
The Sultana Sultans''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 31-24 to Hesperia. While losing is never fun, Sultana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Hesperia is ranked 129th).
When it comes to explaining why Sultana lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacob Higgs. Despite the final result, he threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 87 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Deleon, who picked up 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It was another big night for Da'lon Williams, who rushed for 315 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Williams was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Zamar Malveaux, who rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Hesperia's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Sultana's QB won't forget Jacob Henry anytime soon given Henry sacked him five times.
Sultana has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Hesperia, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Sultana does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hesperia will look to defend their home field on Friday against Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m.
