Football Game Preview: Calhoun Sandcrabs vs. Jones Trojans

The Calhoun Sandcrabs will head out to challenge the Jones Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Calhoun's last matchup with La Vernia could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Sandcrabs were outmatched by the Bears and fell 38-3. The Sandcrabs' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Jones played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against El Campo, falling 45-7. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 668th, while the Ricebirds are ranked 314th).

Calhoun's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Calhoun against Jones when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-13 win. In that game, the Sandcrabs amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
