Softball Recap: Spring Lake Comes Up Short

After flying high against Kenowa Hills on Saturday, Spring Lake came back down to earth. The Lakers fell just short of the Covenant Christian Chargers by a score of 7-5 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lakers have suffered since April 24, 2024.

Ava Twa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Khloe Melinn made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Abigail Lau was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Spring Lake's defeat was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Covenant Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4.

While Spring Lake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
