Basketball Recap: Cumberland Gap Drops Highest Score of Season Against Red Bird

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland Gap). They breezed by the Red Bird Cardinals to the tune of 86-47 on Thursday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.

Cumberland Gap was led to victory by Brady Harris and Kolton Goins. Harris dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Goins went 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points and five boards. Harris' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaton Clawson, who posted nine points and three steals.

Cumberland Gap smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Cumberland Gap pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Red Bird, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Cumberland Gap didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-34 win against Coalfield on the 27th. As for Red Bird, they will venture away from home to square off against Pineville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pineville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Red Bird likes a good challenge.
