Basketball Recap: Reese Gustin and Ella Fiefia Secure Win for Pine View

Pine View entered their tilt with Liberty on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 44-37 victory over the Liberty Patriots. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Leading Pine View to victory were Ella Fiefia and Reese Gustin. Fiefia posted 12 points and seven rebounds, while Gustin had eight points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Gustin a new career-high in blocks (two). Charity Falaniko was another key player, putting up five points.

Pine View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Pine View's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Liberty, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Pine View wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-37 defeat against Lehi on the 14th. As for Liberty, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Durango at 4:00 p.m. on December 26th.
