Football Game Preview: Lamar Raiders vs. Winston Academy Patriots

The Lamar Raiders will square off against the Winston Academy Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Lamar is headed into Friday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Starkville Academy on Friday.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five matchup, Winston Academy brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They blew past Carroll Academy, posting a 40-13 victory. The Patriots' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Lamar better focus on containing Jonah Hood and Kingsley Ashford as the pair were huge in Winston Academy's win. Hood rushed for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, while Ashford picked up 100 receiving yards and two scores. Those 100 receiving yards gave Ashford a new career-high.

Winston Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jayson Mcmillin and Johnson Wykoff.

Winston Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Lamar and Winston Academy were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in September of 2024, but Lamar suffered an agonizing 35-34 defeat. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
