Preview: Cape Hatteras Hurricanes vs. First Flight Nighthawks

Cape Hatteras is 1-9 against First Flight since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes will head out on the road to face off against the First Flight Nighthawks at 4:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Cape Hatteras was the victim of a tough 45-24 defeat at the hands of Currituck County. Cape Hatteras has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Alyssa Bryan, who scored 5 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Abby O'Neal, who scored 9 points.

Meanwhile, First Flight gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed by Northern Nash at home to the tune of 66-21.

First Flight relied on the efforts of Aubrey Phanton, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds, and Maddy Beatson, who scored 14 points along with 7 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Stanley, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds.

Cape Hatteras now has a losing record at 1-2. As for First Flight, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cape Hatteras have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like First Flight struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Cape Hatteras was dealt a bruising 60-30 defeat at the hands of First Flight when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Cape Hatteras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
