Baseball Game Preview: Laporte Wildcats vs. Cass Lake-Bena Panthers

The Laporte Wildcats will take on the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Laporte will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Pine River-Backus, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Tigers 10-8.

Meanwhile, Cass Lake-Bena hadn't done well against Lake of the Woods recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Bears 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since May 9, 2024.

Cass Lake-Bena's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Laporte, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3.

Laporte took their victory against Cass Lake-Bena in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-5 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
