Football Recap: Maret Falls Short of St. Albans in the Playoffs

Maret and St. Albans squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Maret had to settle for second. They fell 49-38 to the Bulldogs. The Frogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Maret lost, don't look at Trysten Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 256 yards and three TDs. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Travis Marcus Jr. was Johnson's top target, picking up 88 receiving yards and one score.

Leading St. Albans to victory were Brett Paukstis and Will Martin. Paukstis threw for 245 yards and four TDs, while Martin gained 211 total yards and a touchdown. Martin didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Maret's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for St. Albans, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Maret does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Albans, they will square off against Digital Pioneers Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Pythons have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
