Basketball Recap: Xavier Comes Up Short

Xavier dropped to 16-5 on Thursday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins on the road. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to the Mosinee Indians. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hawks came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Indians are ranked 82nd).

As for Mosinee, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points over those games.

Mosinee found their leader in freshman Pacyn Stoffel, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 19 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stoffel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paetyn Jirschele, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 17 points and three steals.

Coming up, Xavier will be playing in front of their home fans against New London at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mosinee, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 78-43 victory against Medford on the 6th.
