Softball Game Preview: Hellgate Knights vs. Big Sky Eagles

Hellgate hasn't had much luck against Big Sky recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Hellgate is taking a road trip to take on Big Sky at 3:00 p.m.

Hellgate is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They lost 16-6 to Capital.

Kaija Nagle was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Nat Blaney was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Big Sky put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over Flathead. Fans of the Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Sara Bjornson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bjornson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Bykari, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sadie McGuinn, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2.

Big Sky was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Big Sky pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Hellgate, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Hellgate suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to Big Sky in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Hellgate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
