Basketball Recap: Bethel Assembly Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Bethel Assembly Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 62-47 bruising from the Pamlico Christian Academy Mariners. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 51-44 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Bethel Assembly Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from McKinley Conner, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. Conner's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Peyton Liverman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Bethel Assembly Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Pamlico Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from James Howard, who went 8 of 19 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance also gave Howard a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Trent Gaskins, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and five steals.

Bethel Assembly Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Pamlico Christian Academy, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bethel Assembly Christian Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rock Church at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. One thing working in Rock Church's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Pamlico Christian Academy also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Gramercy Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Pamlico Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
