Volleyball Game Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. San Ysidro Cougars

The Chula Vista Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the San Ysidro Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 6.

On Wednesday, Chula Vista came up short against Castle Park and fell 3-1.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 18-25, 25-7, 25-16.

Meanwhile, San Ysidro hadn't done well against Orange Glen recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cougars walked away with a 3-1 win over the Patriots. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-27, 25-19, 25-19.

Chula Vista better keep an eye on Kaylie Gutierrez. She was instrumental in San Ysidro's win, getting eight aces and six digs. Those eight aces gave Gutierrez a new career-high.

San Ysidro was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 21 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 12 aces in ten consecutive matchups.

San Ysidro's record now sits at 17-12. As for Chula Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.

Chula Vista might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from San Ysidro in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
