Basketball Game Preview: Southeast Cyclones vs. Pine Bluffs Hornets

Southeast is 1-9 against Pine Bluffs since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southeast Cyclones will host the Pine Bluffs Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Southeast will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Southeast had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 31-point drubbing they dealt Guernsey-Sunrise on Saturday. Southeast claimed a resounding 52-21 victory over Guernsey-Sunrise. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Cyclones have posted since December 21, 2024.

Southeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ayden Desmond led the charge by putting up seven points along with five rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Desmond has posted since back in December of 2024. Kannon Tippetts was another key player, earning eight points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Pine Bluffs came up short against Kimball on Tuesday and fell 63-56. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hornets came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in Wyoming, while the Longhorns are ranked 98th in Nebraska).

Southeast's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Pine Bluffs, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
