Softball Recap: Pacifica Wins High-Profile Match Against El Modena

Pacifica faced El Modena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Pacifica had just enough and edged out El Modena 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Mariners in their matchups with the Vanguards: they've now won eight in a row.

Ellena Ediss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Mattea Stern was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Pacifica's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for El Modena, their loss dropped their record down to 11-3.

Looking ahead, Pacifica will venture away from home to take on Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pacifica 3.1, Canyon 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for El Modena, they will take on Oaks Christian in a tournament on Thursday.
