Softball Recap: St. James Saints vs. Fort Hill Sentinels
St. James had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Fort Hill Sentinels as they made off with a 20-4 win. For St. James, this counts as revenge for the 9-8 loss Fort Hill walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2019.
Lily Schlotterbeck made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Schlotterbeck was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with a home run, six RBI, and four runs.
In other batting news, St. James got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Griffith, who went 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Tenley Mullendore, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
St. James' victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs per game. As for Fort Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
St. James will head out on the road to square off against Musselman at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fort Hill, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Turkeyfoot Valley Area at 4:30 p.m.
