Softball Recap: New Castle Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, New Castle's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Shaler Area Titans by a score of 10-9.

Olivia Hood was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Angie Gallo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

New Castle's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Shaler Area, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, New Castle will venture away from home to take on Plum at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hurricanes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for Shaler Area, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Mars at 4:00 p.m. The Fightin' Planets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.47 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
