Basketball Game Preview: Chilton Pirates vs. Marlin Bulldogs

The Chilton Pirates will square off against the Marlin Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chilton has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Marlin will arrive with nine straight wins.

Chilton is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Bruceville-Eddy on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Chilton lost 50-29 to Bruceville-Eddy. The Pirates were down 41-16 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Marlin beat Axtell 56-51 on Tuesday. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 536th, while the Longhorns are ranked 1158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marlin's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.1 points per game. As for Chilton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.

Chilton was dealt a bruising 87-10 loss at the hands of Marlin in their previous matchup on January 7th. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Chilton was down 54-3.
