Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Comes Up Short

Somerset Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 11-1 to the Ferguson Falcons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 4-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2018.

Somerset Academy got a good showing from Sebastian Rodriguez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Somerset Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Meyer Cabrera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Matthew Fari?as also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Somerset Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. This was only their second loss (out of seven games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Somerset Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Ferguson, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7-1 record this season.

Somerset Academy will head out to take on NSU University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ferguson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sunset at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
