The Rodriguez Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the San Ramon Valley Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. San Ramon Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Rodriguez, who comes in off a win.
Rodriguez gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Pioneer.
Nick Schikore tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Sean O'Connell was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Benjaman 'BJ' Smith also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, San Ramon Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-3 to Junipero Serra, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
San Ramon Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Williams, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another was Mitch Nelson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Rodriguez is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 2-4.
Rodriguez's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. Rodriguez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for San Ramon Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Rodriguez continue to outrun the ball?
Rodriguez came up short against San Ramon Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, falling 6-2. Can Rodriguez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
