Basketball Recap: Hawkinsville Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Alicia Newman and Kyla Slocumb

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hawkinsville can now relate to. They lost to the Bryan County Redskins on the road by a 46-29 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Redskins are ranked 109th).

Kyla Slocumb and Alicia Newman certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Slocumb posted 12 points and four steals, while Newman earned five points and five boards. Slocumb is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played.

Hawkinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Bryan County, their win was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-3.

Hawkinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bryan County, they will face off against Macon County on Friday. Macon County will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Bryan County surely won't give up without a fight.
