Basketball Game Preview: Independence Falcons vs. Foothill Trojans

The Independence Falcons will take on the Foothill Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Independence is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Roosevelt just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 45-35 to the Rough Riders. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 513th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 145th).

Despite the loss, Independence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ka'Rayah Robertson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Those 17 points gave Robertson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenadi Walton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Independence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Foothill suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2023 on Saturday. They took a blow against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, falling 40-11. The contest marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Independence now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Independence was able to grind out a solid win over Foothill when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 46-33. Will Independence repeat their success, or does Foothill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
