Baseball Recap: AuSable Valley Patriots vs. Saranac Spartans

AuSable Valley and Saranac squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but AuSable Valley had to settle for second. They lost 10-1 to the Saranac Spartans. AuSable Valley has not had much luck with Saranac recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

For Saranac's part, Adrian Barnes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Barnes has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Barnes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zack Lucia, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Alex Clancy was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

AuSable Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Saranac, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
