Baseball Recap: Jenkintown Comes Up Short

Jenkintown had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-11 to make it ten. They came up short against the Calvary Christian Academy Cougars, falling 18-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Drakes couldn't push the score so high this time.

Jenkintown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Giunta, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

As for Calvary Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 7-7. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Calvary Christian Academy's side, Nathan Flasnburg made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Flasnburg also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Calvary Christian Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Flasnburg was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Jackson Cardinal was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ben Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Jenkintown will head out to challenge Delaware County Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Bristol at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
