Basketball Recap: Loogootee Comes Up Short

Loogootee lost against Barr-Reeve back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Loogootee Lions fell to the Barr-Reeve Vikings 54-48. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Loogootee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alaina Diamond went 9 for 17 on her way to 23 points and six rebounds. That was a full 47.9% of Loogootee's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Waggner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Hannah Bledsoe was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds for Barr-Reeve. Bledsoe has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. Shelby Dobson was another key player, putting up ten points.

Loogootee's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-7. As for Barr-Reeve, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Loogootee will host Springs Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Barr-Reeve, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against South Spencer at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
