Softball Recap: St. Francis Takes a Loss

St. Francis extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They lost 19-1 to the Seaside Spartans. The game marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

As for Seaside, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Seaside's part, Aaliyah Washington made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Washington has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Seaside got a massive performance out of Sophia Villanueva, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave Villanueva a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jasibe Ortiz Sumano, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, St. Francis will square off against Greenfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Sharks will need to watch out since the Bruins have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests. Seaside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
