Softball Game Preview: Ottawa Pirates vs. Sterling Golden Warriors

Ottawa has won three straight games at home, while Sterling has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Pirates will host the Golden Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Ottawa will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Ottawa is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Sandwich 15-3 on Friday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Sterling came out on top against Moline on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Golden Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 win over the Maroons.

The team relied heavily on Bree Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Martinez, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Sterling is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ottawa, their win bumped their record up to 17-10.

Ottawa came out on top in a nail-biter against Sterling in their previous matchup back in May of 2021, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Golden Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
