Softball Recap: Marquette Wins Going Away Against Ishpeming

While Marquette put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Ishpeming. The Sentinels were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Hematites. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Charlye Swajanen made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Swajanen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sammi Trapani was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eva Dewitt, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Marquette's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ishpeming, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Marquette beat the Hematites by a score of 15-11 later that day.
