Softball Recap: Dalton Finds Playoff Glory Versus Columbia

With a playoff win on the line, Dalton rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Columbia Raiders a 10-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Mei Simmons was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Sara Geibel and Hannah Wenger did most of the damage at the plate: Geibel went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Wenger went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Wenger has posted since May 8th. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenna Doty, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Dalton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia only posted a batting average of .059.

Dalton's record now sits at 23-10. As for Columbia, they moved to 19-8 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Dalton nor the Raiders have any future games scheduled.
