Baseball Recap: Hudsonville Takes a Loss

Hudsonville entered their match against Rockford on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Eagles fell just short of the Rams by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since May 1, 2024.

Carson Merritt was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Parker Groenink was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Howard, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Hudsonville's defeat dropped their record down to 10-2-1. As for Rockford, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
