Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Pueblo West Cyclones

The Chaparral Wolverines will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Pueblo West Cyclones at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Chaparral is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Mountain Vista just ended the team's 12-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 82-72 to the Golden Eagles.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Luke Howery, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Christian Williams was another key player, going 6-for-12 to rack up 21 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pueblo West had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They strolled past the Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 73-54.

Chaparral's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 19-4. As for Pueblo West, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.
