Softball Game Preview: Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle vs. Cedar Valley Aviators

The Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle will challenge the Cedar Valley Aviators at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

Juan Diego Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Beaver on Thursday. Juan Diego Catholic fell just short of Beaver by a score of 9-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Soaring Eagle in their meetings with the Beavers: they've now lost three in a row.

Olivia Jewkes was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Avie Hernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Juan Diego Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaver only posted an OBP of .304.

Meanwhile, Cedar Valley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Dixie as Cedar Valley made off with a 17-2 victory. Fans of the Aviators have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Cedar Valley got a massive performance out of Cleora Smith, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Hights, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Cedar Valley's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Juan Diego Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Juan Diego Catholic might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Cedar Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Can Juan Diego Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
