Basketball Recap: Yucaipa Comes Up Short

After some red-hot attacks on offense in their last three contests, Yucaipa finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 69-30 loss at the hands of the Rancho Verde Mustangs. The game marked the Thunderbirds' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Yucaipa lost, don't look at Levi Vaughan. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points. Vaughan has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Van Johnson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Yucaipa's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Rancho Verde, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Yucaipa will take on Valley View in a tournament on Thursday. As for Rancho Verde, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against La Quinta at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs will be up against the Blackhawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
