Baseball Game Preview: Bethlehem Eagles vs. Berea Pirates

The Bethlehem Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Berea Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bethlehem is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Bethlehem barely beat Holy Cross the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 11-2 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Berea fell victim to Bourbon County and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colonels. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Pirates' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Nathan Prophitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Berea and nudges their season record down to 7-19. As for Bethlehem, their victory bumped their record up to 20-13.

Everything went Bethlehem's way against Berea in their previous meeting back in May of 2016, as Bethlehem made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
