Basketball Recap: Minerva Lions vs. Carrollton Warriors
The Minerva Lions lost against the Carrollton Warriors back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Minerva was beaten by the Warriors 51-15. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Minerva in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost five in a row.
Carrollton found their leader in underclassman Kylie Ujcich, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ujcich has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maleyna Havens, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Minerva's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.4 points per game. As for Carrollton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minerva will square off against the Falcons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Carrollton, they will head out on the road to face off against the Crusaders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
