Basketball Recap: Gavin Baker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Archbishop Bergan over Sutton

If Archbishop Bergan was riding high fresh off their 57-32 takedown of Osceola last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Archbishop Bergan Knights took a 54-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sutton Mustangs on Monday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Archbishop Bergan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gavin Baker, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Archbishop Bergan is 3-1 when Baker posts eight or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Mooney, who posted 12 points.

Archbishop Bergan's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Sutton, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Archbishop Bergan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-51 victory against South Sioux City on the 2nd. As for Sutton, they will face off against McCool Junction at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. McCool Junction is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.
