4A Mississippi Valley - Valley recap Sept. 26, 2012
Jefferson's Layne Sullivan rumbled for the longest rushing play in 4A Mississippi Valley - Valley this season in his game against Waterloo East last week. Sullivan scampered for 73 yards on the play and finished with 92 on the day as his team fell to the Trojans.
Xavier extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Kennedy, 35-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Jefferson's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sullivan threw for 178 yards and Ben Koering had 104 yards receiving. Anthony Schumacher helped Jefferson's passing attack out by catching one ball for 30 yards.
Koering made the biggest impact on defense this week as Brian Webb's team lost to Waterloo East. The junior recorded one fumble.
Jefferson's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sullivan has thrown for 207 yards this season, while Koering has seven catches for 118 yards. Sullivan also leads the league in rushing with 111 yards.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Prairie and Cedar Falls meet this week. The Hawks features well-regarded sophomore Bryce Meeker while the Tigers has Ross Pierschbacher, a sought after junior.
A big matchup in 4A Mississippi Valley - Valley this week will be when Prairie takes on Cedar Falls. The Hawks are in fifth place, while Brad Remmert's team is in third place.
The Tigers suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 27-10 loss to the Tigers. Cedar Falls had been ranked 17th, but fell to 31 following the defeat.
