Softball Recap: Spring Mills Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Tucker County on Friday, Spring Mills came back down to earth. The Cardinals fell just short of the Keyser Golden Tornado by a score of 7-6 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 17-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

Claire Wetzel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Alexis Wagner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.

Spring Mills' defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Keyser, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Spring Mills has already played their next game, a 13-3 win against Hampshire on the 12th. As for Keyser, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-4 loss against Pendleton County on the 12th.
