Baseball Game Preview: Gaither Cowboys vs. Steinbrenner Warriors

The Gaither Cowboys will square off against the Steinbrenner Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaither is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.

Gaither's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Strawberry Crest 1-0.

Matt Altman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gaither's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was David Pina, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Steinbrenner didn't have quite enough to beat Sumner on Thursday and fell 6-5.

Steinbrenner also got a good showing from Jackson Winterberg, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Nick Osborne was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Gaither pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Steinbrenner, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.

Gaither skirted past Steinbrenner 2-1 when the teams last played back in February. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
