Woodstock Academy and Ledyard are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Centaurs will head out to take on the Colonels at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodstock Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Woodstock Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Stonington on Saturday. They came up short against the Bears, falling 7-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Centaurs in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost three in a row.
Madison Bloom was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Ledyard came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Lions.
The team relied heavily on Mia Starling, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Dalton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Ledyard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive games.
Woodstock Academy now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Ledyard, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Woodstock Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ledyard struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Woodstock Academy suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Ledyard in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Centaurs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
