Softball Recap: Hesperia Takes a Loss

Hesperia had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it 13. They lost 16-0 to the Lakeview Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Wildcats since April 29, 2016.

As for Lakeview, their record is now 6-16. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Lakeview's part, Katelyn Buchner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Buchner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylor Syrjala, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Breanna Castle, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

While Hesperia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
