Softball Game Preview: Harrisburg Hornets vs. Rivercrest Colts

Harrisburg is 2-8 against Rivercrest since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Hornets will host the Colts at 4:30 p.m. Harrisburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Rivercrest's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, Harrisburg earned a 7-3 victory over Manila. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.

Hawlee Morris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hannah Mross, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Brazille, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rivercrest came up short against Walnut Ridge on Tuesday and fell 9-5.

Emme Weldon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Addison Johnson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Harrisburg's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rivercrest, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6.

Everything went Harrisburg's way against Rivercrest in their previous matchup back in March, as Harrisburg made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
