Baseball Recap: Wiseburn- Da Vinci Wolves vs. El Segundo Eagles
Wiseburn- Da Vinci extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 15-10 in the process. They fell 9-4 to the El Segundo Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 18-7 defeat on April 4th.
Wiseburn- Da Vinci saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Carpenter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for El Segundo, they moved to 17-6-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Surprisingly, this marked their third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
On El Segundo's side, they got a great performance from Samuel Forthuber as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Forthuber has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chase Mattoon was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. Austin Hohman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Wiseburn- Da Vinci and El Segundo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wolves (ranked 313th) will meet Environmental Charter (ranked 861st) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, El Segundo will challenge Peninsula at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (90 vs. 418).
