Softball Recap: Sun Valley Comes Up Short

Sun Valley lost against South Mecklenburg back in March of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Spartans fell just short of the Sabres by a score of 4-2.

Kendall Smith (2026) put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Smith (2026) wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Moore (2025), who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Moore (2025) hit this season.

Sun Valley's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for South Mecklenburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sun Valley will square off against Weddington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Mecklenburg, they will challenge Ardrey Kell at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sabres' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
