Basketball Recap: Alexis Laguna Pesqueira's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sunnyside over Nogales

Sunnyside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 73-67 heartbreaker at the hands of the Nogales Apaches. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Apaches apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alexis Laguna Pesqueira, who went 7-for-11 en route to 18 points and three steals. Nathan Schofield was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Sunnyside's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Nogales, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record.

Sunnyside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-65 loss against Mountain Ridge on the 5th. As for Nogales, they will head out on the road to challenge Salpointe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Apaches will be up against the Lancers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 66.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
