Godwin is a perfect 10-0 against Hermitage since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Godwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Godwin and Matoaca, and Matoaca kept the tradition alive. The Eagles fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 7-6 on Monday.
Godwin saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Boyd, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Eli Macturk also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hermitage, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over L.C. Bird on Thursday. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sam Maxwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Bryce Jackson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brody Davis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Hermitage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Hermitage's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Godwin, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Godwin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hermitage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Godwin's way against Hermitage when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Godwin made off with a 13-3 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
