Basketball Preview: Affton Cougars vs. Riverview Gardens Rams
The Affton Cougars's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Riverview Gardens Rams at 4:30 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully Affton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
Even though Affton has not done well against the Owls recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Affton came out on top against the Owls by a score of 37-25.
Affton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amelia Wilson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Wilson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anna M daughtry, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Riverview Gardens' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They suffered a rough 50-25 loss at the hands of Hazelwood Central. While losing is never fun, Riverview Gardens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 480th, while the Hawks are ranked 139th).
Affton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9. As for Riverview Gardens, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.
Affton strolled past the Rams in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 39-22. Does Affton have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
