Softball Game Preview: Chipley Tigers vs. Cottondale Hornets

The Chipley Tigers will challenge the Cottondale Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chipley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Chipley took on Altha on Tuesday. Chipley walked away with a 7-2 victory over Altha. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Lauren Waits spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, Chipley's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Brown, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Brown is also crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stole at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Jadyn Pettis was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Cottondale had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against Walton by a score of 7-4.

Chrishaunna Dawson made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Dawson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Chipley's record is now 3-1. As for Cottondale, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0.

Chipley came up short against Cottondale in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Chipley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
