Basketball Recap: Taylorsville Takes a Loss

Taylorsville was the 54-21 winner over Layton Christian Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Taylorsville Warriors had to suffer through a 78-29 loss at the hands of the Layton Christian Academy Eagles. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-14.

Taylorsville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tessa Duke, who went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points, and AP Apathjang, who posted nine points along with five boards and three steals.

Layton Christian Academy's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fabiana Lopez, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted six or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Arroyo, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 23 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Taylorsville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Layton Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taylorsville will take on Fremont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Taylorsville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Layton Christian Academy, they will challenge Providence Hall at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
