Baseball Game Preview: Cottondale Hornets vs. Paxton Bobcats

The Cottondale Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the Paxton Bobcats at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cottondale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Last Friday, Cottondale came up short against Bozeman and fell 7-2. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Bucks: they've now lost seven in a row.

Cottondale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trace Pelfrey, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paxton took on Pensacola back in March. Paxton walked away with a 5-1 victory over Pensacola.

Paxton's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Cottondale, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cottondale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paxton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Cottondale skirted past Paxton 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cottondale since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
